I recently spent some time at my mothers rural farm and as I observed the animals I felt inspired to translate their experiences. The album is from the perspective of Merlin, a puppy, and his two companions, BB and Ginger as they observe the farm and indeed the world.
Each day I'd watch them go about, sniffing, chasing horses, laying in the grass eating something rotten or simply sitting out at night starring off. Perhaps barking at other animals far off in the distance and oh how the world seems so big and yet also microscopic all in an instant.
You can learn a lot about the universe, how time doesn't really matter, if you watch a dog under an apple tree long enough.
Merlin is an appropriate name for a dog, I think. A world as small as a little grove becomes pure magic and no one owns it. The magic is limitless and there for the taking.
In a linear sense the record starts in spring and ends with the beginning of winter, although, to the dogs and all the animals I imagine it feels less simple than that.
In short, this album is about the wonderment of discovery and how time can stretch into the longest moments all while flying by so quickly. Thanks for listening,
